CARROLLTON – The Troup Tigers have won nine games this season, and Winston Turner has been the winning pitcher in six of those victories.

Turner’s latest win came on Tuesday as Troup outlasted Carrollton 12-9 in a Region 5-AAAA game.

The Tigers (9-2), who have captured six straight games overall, improved to 4-0 in region play with the road win.

Turner left the game following the sixth inning with Troup holding a 12-7 lead.

The Trojans pushed a pair of runs across and had men on first and third with no outs when Troup coach Craig Garner made a pitching change and brought senior Bo Halcomb into the game.

With the tying run at the plate, Halcomb got a strikeout for the first out, and the Tigers then turned a double play to finish things off and maintain their perfect region record.

Turner was one of Troup’s offensive heroes with three hits and he drove in four runs.

Miles Cameron also had three hits for Troup, and Ryan Bliss, Colby Williams and Kinley Bridwell each had hits.

Garner said Bridwell had a productive day at the plate.

“Every at-bat he had was a positive at-bat, whether he was moving a runner over, or squeezing a run in,” Garner said. “It was a very positive day at the plate.”

Troup and Carrollton will play again the next two days.

Troup will be the host team today, and the location will shift to Carrollton for Thursday’s game.
