LAGRANGE – Lafayette Christian School’s sports teams have already won two state championships this school year.

This weekend, the school will have a chance to bring home a third state title.

Lafayette Christian’s boys’ soccer team, after winning its first two games in the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association state tournament, will play for the title on Saturday.

The championship game, which features Lafayette Christian and Westminster Christian Academy, will be played at Creekside Christian Academy in McDonough, and it will get under way at 1 p.m.

Lafayette Christian, which won a region championship, beat Providence Classical Christian Academy 3-0 in its state opener last week.

In the semifinals on Tuesday, Lafayette Christian found itself pushed to the limit by Horizon Christian Academy before hanging on for a 2-1 road win.

A year ago, the Cougars reached the state-championship game before falling short, and they’ll try to take the next step on Saturday.

Westminster has beaten Harvester Christian and Friendship Christian to reach the title game.

It has already been an exceptional year on the athletic field for Lafayette Christian.

In the fall, it was Lafayette Christian’s football team beating Central Christian to win the title.

In the winter, Lafayette Christian’s boys’ basketball team brought home the championship after beating North Georgia Christian.
