LaGrange High’s Alex Bowie took top honors among the freshmen and sophomore runners during the Aubrae Gunderson Invitational at the Georgia International Horse Park on Saturday in Conyers.
It was large meet with dozens of teams, and there was a separate race for freshmen and sophomores.
Bowie, who is in the midst of a successful first season at LaGrange, was the top finisher among those runners, posting a time of 18 minutes, 34 seconds to finish ahead of Archer sophomore Nicholas Kundin (18:51).
In third place was LaGrange’s Joshua Turman (18:57), and his teammate Matthew Callaway (19:30) finshed 10th.
Also for LaGrange, Miller Penn (19:44) was 13th, Donta Dunson (20:12) was 25th, and Javid Coleman (21:35) was 62nd.
In the girls’ freshman and sophomore race, it was LaGrange’s Anna Brovoll (23:31) earning a second-place finish, and Brianna Stansbury (25:47) was 11th.
Anna Doerr (26:27) placed 16th, Amanda Thompson (28:54) was 41st, and Hana Sato (34:53) finished 80th.
In the main race that included runners in all grades, LaGrange’s Alaina Tomlinson (21:26) came through with a fifth-place finish.
In the junior-senior race, LaGrange’s Audrey Tomlinson (27:27) was ninth, and Mary Beth Callaway (29:23) placed 19th.
On the boys’ side for LaGrange, Collin Taylor (20:48) was 21st, and Denver Bracken (21:38) was 37th.
LaGrange’s other competitors were Reed Davenport (24:42), Michael Ramirez (25:31) and Dane Bateman (25:47).
GARDNER NEWMAN: Delfina Martinez continued to dominate the competition.
Martinez, competing in a 3.1-mile race on Saturday, had a time of 21:58 to win the Rock Ranch Invitational, and she was more than a minute ahead of her closest competitor, Brianna Brown (22:07).
Also for Gardner Newman, Ivorie Smith (27:09) finished 31st, Takiha Kennedy (27:29) was 33rd, Zamya Rhaney (27:41) placed 37th, and Addie Eiland (27:59) was 36th.
Rounding out the top 10 for Gardner Newman were Mary Bakarich (28:06), Zenay Rhaney (29:32), Chloe Morman (29:35), Shacarla Barrett (29:44) and Lauren Hale (30:40).
In the boys’ race, Isaiah Coleman (20:29) had a strong sixth-place showing for Gardner Newman.
Jack Doerr (24:34), Henry Huberdeau (24:48), Jack McSpadden (25:08), Jaylen Brown (25:31), Carter Crites (25:38), Trevor Booton (26:04), Andy Patton (26:08), Cam Larry (27:10) and Walker Kemp (28:00) rounded out Gardner Newman’s top 10.
On Thursday, Gardner Newman ran at Heard County, and Martinez was first, and Rhaney, Kennedy and Smith placed in the top 10.
