FAYETTEVILLE – It was another big road win for the LaGrange Grangers.

The Grangers opened the season with back-to-back road wins over Newnan and Mundy’s Mill, and after beating Woodward Academy and Troup at home, they went back on the road to play a strong Whitewater team on Tuesday.

It was a tight, hard-fought game, and it was LaGrange coming away with a 55-51 win to improve to 5-0.

As has been the case throughout the season, senior guard Derieko Smith led the way in scoring with 18 points, and Bryan Fanning added 12 points.

LaGrange led 14-11 after one quarter, and 29-24 at the half.

The Grangers took control in the third period, outscoring the Wildcats 15-8 to build a 44-32 lead as the final quarter began.

The Grangers struggled a bit from the free-throw line in the final period, but they were able to hold off the Wildcats to stay perfect.

In Tuesday’s girls’ game, LaGrange topped Whitewater 44-40 in a low-scoring game.

Shania Woodard led the way for LaGrange with 17 points, and Aryan Dozier contributed 16 points.

The Lady Grangers improved to 3-0 on the road, and they’re 4-1 overall.

LaGrange’s teams will visit county rival Callaway on Saturday.
