LAGRANGE – They’re still perfect.

The Lafayette Christian School Cougars made it nine straight wins to start the season with a 70-49 victory over visiting Holy Ground Baptist Academy on Tuesday.

Antevius Sands made three 3-pointers and led the Cougars with 23 points, and he also had six rebounds.

Marcus Mobley added 18 points, and he pulled down eight rebounds and had five steals.

Jemi Reed contributed 11 points, and he had six rebounds and seven steals.

Josh Shepherd added six points, and he grabbed four rebounds and had a pair of steals.

The Cougars had no trouble finding their shooting touch as they scored 41 points in the first two quarters.

Lafayette Christian surged to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter, with Reed, Mobley and Sands combining for all but two of those points.

The Cougars heated up even more in the second quarter, putting 23 points on the scoreboard, with Sands finding the range from long distance with a pair of 3-pointers.

By the halftime break, Lafayette Christian had a 41-23 lead.

Sands stayed hot in the third period with seven points as the Cougars extended their lead to 56-37, and they maintained a comfortable margin throughout the final quarter.

Lafayette Christian will be on the road on Friday for what should be one of its toughest games of the regular season against Heirway Christian Academy.

In Tuesday’s girls’ game, it was Lafayette Christian falling short against Holy Ground 67-15.

Rory Kloster scored six points to lead the Lady Cougars.

Lafayette Christian head coach Paula Johnson said Holy Ground was able to turn her team’s many turnovers into points.
