Police said the youth was cursing at the juveniles when he pulled at the silver handgun and pointed it at them. Officers found the weapon in his waistband.
He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a juvenile and obstruction. He was taken to Columbus Youth Detention Center.
Arrest
West Point police arrested Gary Erwin, 32, of Leicester, N.C., on five counts of forgery, giving false information to law-enforcement officers and driving while license suspended.
Thefts, burglaries
- A four-wheeler was stolen from a carport in the 500 block of Hines Road.
- An air compressor valued at $400 was stolen from Ark Refuge Ministry at 504 E. Depot St. Employees found the locked shed in the back yard broken open and the lock on the ground.
Fleeing motorist found in attic
A man was found hiding in a house’s attic after running from a police checkpoint at Miller and South Greenwood streets.
Police said the motorist pulled up to the checkpoint in a GMC Yukon, then raced away, reaching speeds of more than 70 mph. The driver abandoned the vehicle on Austin Street.
A police dog led officers to a residence in the 900 block of South Parkway, where police found the found the suspect in the attic.
He was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, stop sign violations and obstruction.
