The victim, who was treated at West Georgia Medical Center and released, said he was walking near East Depot Street and Rome Avenue when he was approached by a man with a handgun demanding money. The robber took an MP3 player from the victim’s pocket, then beat him on the head with the gun. The gun fired, hitting the victim in the hand.
Woman hears burglar in house
A resident of the 1500 block of Elm Street told police she was lying in bed when she heard someone knocking at the door. She thought it was at her neighbor’s house until she heard a man inside her house say “Knock knock.” She then heard a screen door slam. When she got up, she found her laptop computer and digital camera missing.
Thefts, burglaries
— A set of rims worth $800 were taken from a vehicle at Jennings Automotive at 120 1/2 Gallant St.
— A $300 pit bull dog was taken from where it had been chained outside a house in the 1100 block of Elm Street.
— A window on a house in the 800 block of South Ogletree Street was broken and intruders went through drawers and closets, but nothing was taken. In a second incident on the same block, less than $500 damage was done to a door of a house, but nothing was taken in that incident, either.
— A $200 cell phone was taken from a backpack during field day at Gardner Newman Middle School.
— A Dell laptop computer belonging to Milliken and Co. was taken from an unlocked car in the parking lot of Walgreen’s at 115 Vernon St.
Damage
— About $450 damage was done to a house in the 300 block of Ware Street when someone kicked in a rear door, punched a wall and damaged a bathroom door.
— A storm door on a house in the first block of Sanford Avenue was shot with a BB gun, causing $250 damage.
