Troup County Sheriff Donny Turner said the vehicle was northbound on Hamilton Road about 1 p.m. while a Department of Transportation tractor was bush-hogging. A rock was slung from under the tractor, traveling through the windshield and striking the passenger. The car went off the road and into a ditch.
The woman was taken to West Georgia Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
“It was a freak tragedy,” Turner said.
The name of the victim was not immediately available.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident, and the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
