Police said Chris Holder, 46, whose address was unavailable, approached a man threatening to kill him with a knife at the Summit Gas Station at 208 Vernon St. about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The man used pepper spray on Holder and called police. Holder was charged with aggravated assault.
Woman assaulted
A woman said she was assaulted by her boyfriend Tuesday afternoon.
Witnesses told police that a woman and Roy Turner Jr., whose age and address were unavailable, were arguing outside a residence when Turner grabbed the woman and put her in a headlock. The woman escaped his grasp, but was then chased down the street and caught by Turner, who put her in another headlock.
A witness called police, and Turner fled heading toward Turner Street.
The girlfriend told police he had made bond on an aggravated assault charge and she had filed a restraining order.
The incident is still under investigation.
Altered bill found
An employee of the Money Back store at 2860 Upper Big Springs Road reported a counterfeit $50 bill was used on Tuesday. Police said the bill was originally a $5 bill, but was altered to make it look like a $50 bill.
Thefts, burglaries
— A 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle was taken from the 8800 block of Hamilton Road.
— Two vehicles and various items were taken from a residence in the 800 block of Bartley Road. The owner said the items were taken while he was in the process of moving out.
Vandalism
A lock on a gate in the 100 block of Lakecrest Drive was cut off. Nothing was missing or tampered with.
Stranger rents rug machine
A woman reported someone rented a Rug Doctor machine using her name on May 25. The store contacted the woman and told her she needed to return the machine.
The woman told police she had previously lost her Georgia identification card and it was probably used by someone to rent the machine.
Indictments
These were among 31 grand jury indictments returned in Troup County:
— James William Redding, 48, of Manchester was indicted on two counts of child molestation and one count aggravated child molestation.
— Heath Lee Rainwater, 40, of Old Airport Road was indicted on charges of aggravated sodomy, aggravated assault, two counts of first-degree cruelty to children, three counts of third-degree cruelty to children and four counts obstruction of an officer.
— Matthew Bryan Vosburgh, 33, of Alford Street was indicted on charges of aggravated child molestation, criminal attempt to commit a felony and child molestation.
— Christopher Bryan White, 33, of Barry Avenue was indicted on two counts of simple battery, two counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, battery, false imprisonment, hindering an emergency telephone call and obstruction of an officer.
— Robert Deshun Russell, 35, of Ware Street was indicted on six counts of first-degree forgery.
— Louis Rutledge Jr., 57, of Cannonville Road was indicted on one count of burglary.
— Patrick Andra Kimbrough, 47, of Auburn Avenue was indicted on one count of robbery.
