The sneaky SPLOST hoax

Dear Editor:

What will you never see on a general election ballot, when a governor or president is up for election and voter turnout will be high? That’s right, a SPLOST initiative. They are always on the ballot in “special elections,” or ones with predictably low turnouts. The tax backers know most folks aren’t gonna vote themselves a tax hike, so they sneak in these SPLOST elections when they know there will be record low turnout. Notice the lack of anyone being encouraged to go to the polls? They’ve brainwashed the teachers to go out and vote for it “or there will be cutbacks.” So they depend on the sheep (teachers) and the chamber of commerce types to pass the SPLOST, and guess what? It always works. Call ’em corrupt, but don’t call ’em stupid.

In areas with real teachers unions, the teachers get a day off with pay so they can go vote. I spent a quarter-century in the newspaper business. I know how this game is played.

I urge us all to go out and vote, for or against the SPLOST, but I’m sick and tired of the “special election” scam, which is simply Big Brother knowing what’s best for the folks. The powers-that-be want you to not vote on SPLOST. It’s that simple.

So go out and vote on SPLOST. You might finally get that meeting you’ve been wanting with your kids’ teacher.

Tom, Mike,

Perhaps George's cynicism is above both of your heads. Please note in Ms. Gilmore's letter today, she points out the fact that SPLOST III ends Nov 2012. Perhaps you two can explain to me and others why are we voting so early on the proposed new tax instead of voting on it in Nov of 2012 when we will definately have a much higher voter turnout.

technically it is a continuance of the current tax rate. But yes you are voting yourself a higher sales tax rate.

If you look at the proposed uses for the money you can clearly see most are wasteful to say the least.

I know I'm getting old - but pleasse help me here - - what in the heck is the point of your letter?

Mike - - no indication of literacy detected above...

The SPLOST vote is not about a tax increase, and meetings with teachers are readily available to those who want them. Literate voters should already know that.
