As a county commissioner and a Republican in Troup County, I have never seen the Republican Party take such a stand as Bill and Ellen Gilmore are taking toward the proposed special-purpose local-options sales taxes.
I am a lifelong Republican in my fourth term as commissioner. In all these years I have never seen the community misled by a group of people like they are being misled now. I am sick and tired of the falsehoods spread as they try to make it appear that the entire Republican Party is opposed to the SPLOSTs when that certainly is not the case.
If passed, SPLOSTs will generate revenue for necessary projects in our community. You will know exactly where the money is being spent and what we’re gaining from it. If that’s not transparency in government, I don’t know what is.
