Two people were injured after a three-vehicle wreck Thursday night on LaFayette Parkway.

Police said Michael Merna, 50, of Lanett, Ala., was turning a 2004 Ford Explorer into the LaGrange Mall parking lot at 1501 Lafayette Parkway when he collided with a 1989 Ford Ranger driven by Matthew Stone, 25, of Hill Street.

The collision caused Merna’s vehicle to spin 180 degrees and hit a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe in the other lane.

The Ford Explorer and Ranger both received extensive damage, and Tony Booker, 31, of North Cary Street, was injured as a passenger in the Ranger. Stone also complained of an injury to his chest, but refused to be transported for treatment.

Booker was transported to West Georgia Medical Center, where a condition report was unavailable Friday night. Merna was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.

Man charged in utility theft

A LaGrange man was arrested after a Diverse Power employee reported an electrical meter was removed.

The employee was at the residence in the 800 block of Youngs Mill Road about 8:15 a.m. Friday when he told police someone tampered with the meter base.

The resident told police he found the meter base in its current condition, but later told police he had removed meter after his power was suspended five days ago.

The man was arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft of utilities.
