The Troup County School System will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Thursday at Callaway Elementary School to discuss a proposal to shift about 58 students to another school.
The proposal would sent the send the students to Mountville Elementary School because Callaway Elementary is at capacity. School system staff said in December that the school’s capacity is 650 students, but is projected to have 686 students next school year.
About 34 students already live in Mountville’s proximity area and attend Callaway Elementary. A school system advisory group looked at moving the line for Mountville east of its current border at Interstate 85 over to Hogansville Road up to Beasley Road, which would put another 69 children in Mountville’s area.
Rising fifth-graders and their siblings would be exempt from changing schools.
