Qualifying for Troup County elections starts Wednesday and 14 local positions are up for election.
Qualifying will be held at the Probate Court office starting 9 a.m. May 23 and end at noon May 25. County positions up for election and their incumbents are Clerk of Court Jackie Taylor, Sheriff Donny Turner, Tax Commissioner Gary Wood, Coroner Jeff Cook, Solicitor-General Markette Baker, State Court Judge Jeannette Little, Probate Judge Donald Boyd, Troup County Commissioners Buck Davis, District 2; Ken Smith, District 3; and Morris Jones, District 4; and Board of Education members Dianne Matthews, District 2; Sheila Rowe, District 3; Debbie Burdette, District 5; and John Darden, District 6.
Anyone who wishes to qualify needs to provide a qualifying fee along with proper documentation for identification and proof of residency. Fees are $3,459 for state court judge, $2,270 for sheriff, $2,241 for solicitor, $1,894 for probate judge and tax commissioner, $761 for coroner, $234 for Board of Education District 2, $285 for Board of Education District 3, $237 for Board of Education District 5, $204 for Board of Education District 6 and $180 for each County Commission district.
