The Troup County Republican Party (TCRP) held a Candidates Forum on Tuesday, May 15th at the library for those running for District 2 on the Troup County Board of Commissioners. The incumbent is Buck Davis, and there are two running against him for the office.
Both of his opponents, Mike Freeland and Ken Ragan, were present at the forum. The forum was a very good event with about 70 people in attendance where the voters could actually have the face-to-face interaction and hear from the candidates directly as to where they stand on various issues and principles of government. However, Buck Davis chose not to show up!
As I understand it from the article in the paper the next day, Buck Davis did not attend due to an ongoing disagreement with the chairman of the TCRP. It is unfortunate that Buck Davis is focusing so much attention on a personality conflict when the focus should be on the issues and ideas that affect the residents of Troup County. The only reason it is ongoing is because Buck Davis will not move on and let it go. If Buck Davis cannot handle a personal disagreement like this, then he surely does not need to be sitting on the Troup County Board of Commissioners where there will always be disagreements on a variety of issues.
