Early morning fire destroys Pine Mountain home

Troup County firefighters were investigating a blaze this morning that destroyed a residence near Pine Mountain.

Troup County Fire Department Capt. Steve Preston said residents Paul and Betty Dunlap were uninjured in the fire, which firefighters believed started near the roof. Preston said Paul Dunlap was awakened about 2 a.m. by a loud noise and checked the house, but didn’t see anything. His wife Betty Dunlap awoke about an hour later to fire alarms and saw smoke.

Firefighters battled the blaze for a few hours. The home was a total loss with damages estimated at about $350,000

Burglaries, thefts

Electronics and a paycheck were among items stolen during a burglary at a home on Margarite Street. The victims said they returned home to find a 38-inch Sony television, Sony PlayStation 3 and paycheck missing. Police are investigating the incident.

A woman reported a burglary at her home in the 100 block of Bell Street, after discovering her door was open. She told police that a window on the side of her house was also open and that a 32-inch flat-screen television was stolen. Police are investigating the incident.

A woman reported that all four of her Goodyear tires were stolen off her 2002 Honda Civic while parked in the 1000 block of Hogansville Road. She said her car had been parked in the same spot for nearly a week, according to a report. Police are investigating the incident.

A woman reported a Walmart car battery was stolen out of her vehicle, a Mazda Tribute, while parked in the 800 block of Piney Woods Drive. She said the battery is worth approximately $110, according to a police report.

A man reported a theft of medication, after he said someone refilled his prescription at Walgreens, located at 115 Vernon Road. The 60 Roxapan muscle relaxer pills are valued at $31, according to a police report.
