Bill Champion is a busy man.
Champion, the head tennis pro at McCluskey Tennis Center, has something going on just about every day at the facility.
There are classes and clinics for beginners and accomplished players alike, and the tennis center is also playing host to several tournaments this year.
There is also regular league play at the tennis center for men and women.
“It’s a busy time,” Champion said while directing a tennis clinic for beginning junior players last week.
Over the next two weekends, the tennis center will host a pair of tournaments.
The Charter Bank Junior Classic Championship will be held Saturday and Sunday.
It will be a United States Tennis Association level four tournament for boys and girls ages 10 to 18.
Next weekend, one of the biggest tournaments of the year will take place.
Champion said close to 100 players are expected to compete in the Lobbin’ for Literacy tournament that benefits the Troup County CLCP Summer Reading Program.
The tennis center also plays host to clinics for youths and adults every day of the week but Sunday.
There’s a hot shots clinic for children ages 4 to 6, a junior beginner’s clinich for 7 to 16-year-olds, an intermediate junior tennis clinic for young people the same age, and a pair of adult beginners clinics.
