After knocking on the door for two straight years, the LaGrange Academy Lady Warriors finally crossed the threshold.

The softball team had finished second in the state two straight years before reaching the mountaintop last fall.

Behind player of the year Molly Child, the Lady Warriors won a three-game series against Brentwood to win the GISA Class AA state title.

In the clinching game, Child hit two home runs, and she also delivered a seven-inning gem on the mound.

“This was everything we have worked for,” said Kailin Parker, one of four seniors on the team along with Child, Emily Allardice and Khadija Neely. “It feels great.”

Added Allardice: “Just coming up short the past seasons, it’s great to finally win one.”

Coach Charlers Parker, who has built a softball dynasty at the school, was thrilled with the way the team recovered after losing the opening game in the series.

“They played tough all day long, and I really just couldn’t be prouder of them,” Parker said.

The LaGrange Academy boys’ basketball team, as has been the case for most of the past decade, made a serious run at a state title.

The Warriors made it to the semifinals for the third straight year, but they lost to First Presbyterian 63-58.

It was the team’s fifth trip to the semifinals in nine years.

“It was a great year,” said head coach Matt Dalrymple. “We did a lot of things that a lot of people didn’t think we could do. In my nine years, it was one of my most fun years. I enjoyed coaching them. They just kind of clicked, and came together. I’m proud of how far we went.”

In high-school soccer, the Lady Warriors enjoyed a terrific season, and they nearly pulled off a big win in the state tournament.

Facing state power Frederica Academy, LaGrange Academy lost 1-0 in the first round of the Class AA state playoffs.
