Sheffield, a recent graduate of Troup High, is a member of the Team Georgia baseball team that is competing in the eight-team Heartland Baseball Classic this week in Norman, Okla.
The team is made up of some of the top baseball players from the class of 2012.
Through the first two days of competition, Team Georgia has a 2-2 record and has four games remaining in pool play.
Team Georgia plays two games today and two more games on Friday, and it will participate in a place game on Saturday.
Sheffield earned his spot on the roster with a phenomenal senior season.
Sheffield hit 11 home runs and drove in 41 runs, and he also had nine wins on the mound in helping lead Troup to the semifinals for the first time since 1986.
Sheffield is the third Troup baseball player to make the prestigious Team Georgia, joining Daniel Watts and Luke Bailey, both of whom are now playing professional baseball.
Sheffield is set to play at Chattahoochee Valley Community College next season.
Sheffield made an impact in the Heartland Classic before the first game was played when he finished fourth in the home-run derby.
Sheffield hit four of his six pitches out of the park, and he finished just one home run behind the finalists.
Sixteen players participated in the home-run derby.
