The Dixie Youth Baseball tournament season will get under way today, with the George F. Harris Baseball Complex playing host to the 9-10-year-old District 1 tournament.

Half of the tournament teams hail from Troup County, and they’ll all be in action today.

At 10 a.m., Troup National will play will play Manchester, and Troup American will face Pike County.

If both Troup County teams win, they’d face off on Sunday at 2 p.m.

If either team loses, they would also play at 2 p.m. on Sunday in an elimination game.

At noon today, Hogansville will take the field against Thomaston.

Win or lose, Hogansville won’t play again until Monday at 6:30 p.m.

The double-elimination tournament continues through Wednesday, and possibly Thursday if a final game is needed.

The top-two finishers will advance to the state tournament, with the winner of that tournament advancing to the Dixie World Series.

A year ago, Troup National and Hogansville each made it through to the state tournament, with Troup National finishing second at state.

On June 30, Troup County’s two 11-12-year-old all-star teams will participate in the district tournament in Manchester, and they’ll try to snare the district’s two invitations to the state tournament.

Troup County’s 13-14-year-old all-star team will participate in the state tournament beginning July 6 in Columbus.

If Troup County wins that tournament, it will advance to the Dixie Boys Baseball World Series.

Also, Troup County will have a 7-8-year-old all-star team this year for the first time, and that team will participate in its state tournament in Manchester beginning July 7.
