Unfortunately for Troup American, Manchester dominated the rest of the game to claim a 17-7 victory and advance in the Dixie Youth Baseball 9-10-year-old District 1 tournament at the Harris Baseball Complex.
In its tournament opener, Troup American fell to Pike County 10-5 on Saturday.
Manchester will play Hogansville at 6:30 p.m. today in an elimination game.
Troup American was riding high early in Sunday’s game.
The first five batters reached in the top of the first.
Sam West, Walton Lanier, Pierce Butler,Cole Crawford and Luke Purnell all got on to start the game, and each player came around to score.
Chance Lester also scored a run in the inning.
Purnell had one of the big hits in the inning, an RBI double.
Manchester came right back with six runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the score, though.
Troup did reclaim the lead with a run in the top of the second, with Cade Garner reaching on a single and Coleman Hull delivering a double.
Manchester seized control with seven runs in the bottom of the second, though, and Troup County was unable to recover.
Purnell had a couple of hits for Troup, and Mason Green, Lester, Garner and Hull each had hits as well.
Lanier had two walks in the game.
In Saturday’s game, Troup American was up 5-1, but Pike County claimed a lead it wouldn’t relinquish with six runs in the bottom of the third to go up 7-5.
After falling behind 10-5, Troup pushed a run across in the top of the sixth before the rally ended.
In a two-run first inning, Lanier and Butler each walked, and Crawford had a base hit.
Lester had an RBI in the inning.
Troup American notched three more runs in the third inning.
Tanner Jackson was hit by a pitch and Hull walked to set the table, and West doubled and Butler had a base hit.
In the sixth, Crawford had a triple.
