In reference to a statement made by school board member, Ted Alford, who on July 20th commented on a tax break for seniors stating that “he was in that age group” but he “felt that he should pay his fair share like everyone else and let the millage rate stay the same”.
I don’t mind paying my share but only if it is done fairly. Why should seniors in LaGrange pay school taxes when other counties in Georgia exempt seniors after age 62. My relatives in Floyd and Cobb County don’t understand why I still pay school taxes at age 83. My taxes have been raised three time in the last ten years as my property has been revalued, the last time by $6,000.
If have an FHH home which has had no improvements for three years. Some of the homes around me have been foreclosed on and many down the road from me have been for sale for over a year. Others are desperately in need of repairs. Maybe the school board needs to ride down Old West Point Road to Cannonville Road and take a look at the condition of some of the homes.
