I was offended as I read with disbelief the editorial cartoon regarding Chic-fil-a that you published in the Aug. 4 print edition of the LaGrange Daily News.
I do not know the demographics of your print edition subscribers, but it would be my guess that the majority are fifty years of age and older, consider themselves conservative in their beliefs, and wholeheartedly support the stance of Chic-fil-a regarding the Biblical values that your cartoon maligned.
This community’s support of Chic-fil-a was evidenced this past Thursday when citizens came out in droves to support our two local Chic-fil-a’s on Chic-fil-a Day. Knowing how loudly this community spoke this past Thursday, it befuddles me as to why you would choose to run such an incendiary cartoon on Saturday, or ever, for that matter! If your intention was to alienate and anger your core group of print edition subscribers, then you should be congratulated — you succeeded!
I find it incomprehensible how those who hold the views of the extreme activists preach that we as Christians should be tolerant of their beliefs, while at the same time, they are intolerant of our beliefs, and think it okay to attack, belittle, and malign our faith and values any time and any way possible. By printing that cartoon, you added your voice and gave legitimacy to those who hold that belief. The intent of my letter to you today is to tell you: It’s not okay!
Your paper is entitled: The LaGrange Daily News. As a subscriber to the print edition of your paper, and as a member of this community, I feel that I, along with every other subscriber, have a right to expect and demand better of you!
