Dear Editor,

In your article entitled “Woodruff to face Hairston in Nov. election,” the LDN reporter erroneously proclaims that I have identified myself as a “Woodruff supporter.” Please be advised that I have never identified myself as a Woodruff supporter and have always told anyone who would listen that I am a personal friend and professional colleague of Sheriff Donny Turner. Ask anyone who has driven by my house this past election season and they will tell you I have had a “Re-elect Donny Turner” sign in my yard for months. I supported my friend in this election and I have never been ashamed to say so. I have also had to make some legal calls during this election season knowing that my decisions would be subject to strict scrutiny and some criticism because of my personal and professional relationship with Sheriff Turner. I made those calls anyway knowing the consequences. I believe my decisions are firmly supported by the written law and that I did what was right.

I can’t believe with all the misinformation out there this past election cycle that no one from the LDN bothered to call me about this matter. I have an open door policy and would not have dodged the question concerning my support for Sheriff Turner. Your article makes it appear that I play both sides against the middle and I just don’t do that.

In the upcoming sheriff’s election in November, I will remain neutral and will not support any particular candidate. Regardless of who prevails in November, they will have some big shoes to fill and the people of Troup County deserve the best of any elected public officer. That is why I want the record to be straight so the citizens will know the truth about me from me.
