On Sunday, author Aurthur Deron Hicks will be available to sign copies of his newly released book, “Secrets of Shakespeare’s Grave”.

The signing will take place between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., here in LaGrange at 505 Broad Street.

Hicks is a former attorney who is the current inspector general of Georgia, working out of Atlanta. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia and obtained his law degree from Mercer Law School. He lives in Warm Springs with his wife and two children.

“Secrets of Shakespeare’s Grave” features 12 year-old Colophon who, while trying to save her family’s publishing company, finds herself in England searching for a family treasure. The story is a thrill ride for the reader as Colophon works her way through this fast moving, and, at times a bit scary, adventure. This novel is Hicks’ first in a series entitled, “The Letterford Mysteries”.

After reading a number of biographies on William Shakespeare, Hicks came up with the idea for an ending of a novel. His interest for using his idea to write a book was twofold.

“What got me to write the book was my interest in Shakespeare and my desire to write a story for my children,” said Hicks during a recent telephone interview. “It took me about two years to write it because I just worked on it when I wanted to, I did not have any deadlines,” said Hicks.

Hicks already has the second book of the series completed and it is now going through the editing stage of production. “While writing the second book, I was much more disciplined. Every night I went into my office and worked on the story for a few hours,” he said. Even before he had started the actual writing of the story, Hicks said that his publisher had him write a complete summary for it. With the help of the summary and his disciplined writing schedule, Hicks finished his second book in just a few months. Hicks is currently working on finishing the story summary for the third book in the series.

In his books, Hicks has his characters visit many different places that offer the readers opportunities to learn about people and events from the past. “I am very passionate about helping young readers see how beautiful the world is while also developing their sense of history. There are places out there where history comes alive,” he said.

Hicks expertly weaves history with mystery and comes up with an adventure novel that will have his readers anxiously waiting for the second and third books of “The Letterford Mysteries” series.
