Teenagers suspected in multi-state crime spree

Two youths were arrested in Troup County in suspicion of being part of a multi-state crime spree, according to a sheriff’s report.

Joseph Brandyn Carver, 19, of Austell, was seen driving a stolen GMC Sonoma on Interstate 85 that had been taken from Madison, Fla. He and his stepbrother, 16, who was not named in the report, were believed to have stolen items from stores and cars in Tallahassee, Fla., and stole another truck from Cairo, a deputy said.

Carver was being held in Troup County Jail and the youth was sent to the Columbus Youth Detention Center.

Small fire reported outside Mariotti Gym at LaGrange College

LaGrange police and firefighters responded to a fire of undetermined causes outside LaGrange College’s Mariotti Gym and Henry Hall on Monday.

A resident assistant grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. The fire scorched a grassy area near the northwest corner of the gym and caused about $250 damage to some bushes, firefighters said.

The actual building was not involved in the fire.

Suspected robbery

A man told police he was in a house in the 1000 block of Whitesville Street when he was the victim of a suspected robbery by snatch. A Kel Tec .32 caliber pistol was taken in the incident.

Thefts, burglaries

•Two women reported their cars broken into Monday at West Georgia Medical Center, 1514 Vernon Road. The first victim said someone broke the passenger window of her 1997 Chevrolet Corvette with a brick and the center console was rummaged. A second woman said someone broke the front passenger window of her 2005 Honda Civic. Her car had also been rummaged.

•A man said someone stole a heavy duty step ladder from the bed of his truck while he was at Home Depot at 1500 Lafayette Parkway.

•A central heating and air unit was reported taken from a house in the 300 block of Waterview Drive.

•Someone broke in a storage area of a house in the 3000 block of Hogansville Road and took $500 worth of items including jewelry and a trolling motor.

•Someone took the batteries from an EZ-Go golf cart in the first block of Pine Grove Way, causing more than $1,000 in damage to the golf cart.

•A man in the 100 block of Potts Road said someone took a $450 laptop computer from his house.

Checks reported forged

The owner of Food Mart at 1616 Whitesville St. said three forged checks had been passed at the store since Friday. The checks totaled more than $2,000.

Later on Monday, the store owner said another man came into the store and attempted to pass another forged check for $487.22. The man wound up leaving behind the check and his photo ID.

Damage

A woman in the 800 block of Houston Street said someone caused $500 in damage to her Ford Fusion by denting the hood and scratching the door.

Guilty pleas

The following people recently pleaded guilty in Troup County Superior Court:

•Denareo Allen Smith, 18, of LaGrange, armed robbery and aggravated assault in a Jan. 30 incident in the 500 block of Revis Street, where he took $15 from a victim and fired at the victim’s vehicle six times; 10 years’ imprisonment.

•Charles Thomas Fergerson, 30, of LaGrange, robbery by force, battery under the family violence act and battery for forcefully taking a purse from a woman and punching another woman in the face; five years’ imprisonment and five years’ probation.

•Ronald Keith Crenshaw, 40, of LaGrange, theft of about $1,200 in metal; three years’ imprisonment and seven years’ probation, suspended if he completes drug court.

•Curtis Nathan Boyd, 21, of LaGrange, statutory rape of a girl under 16 years old; three years’ imprisonment and 17 years’ probation.

•Johnny Harritt Brown, 43, of Atlanta, burglary and false report of a crime; three years’ imprisonment and five years’ probation.

•Edwin Lamar Jarmon, 59, of Hogansville, cocaine possession; one year in prison and four years’ probation, suspended if he completes drug court.

•Joshua Catlin Yarbrough, 21, of Pine Mountain, driving without a license, driving under the influence of marijuana, marijuana posession and methamphetamine possession; one year in prison and four years’ probation, suspended if he completes drug court.

•Alfonia Hart, 47, of LaGrange, financial transaction card theft and four counts of card fraud; 12 months in the Troup County Correctional Institute and two years’ probation.

•Jacalvious Marquez Ricks, 25, of West Point, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drugs by an inmate; two years’ imprisonment and three years’ probation.
