The Cavaliers improved to 3-1 overall, and they’re 1-0 in Region 4-AAA.
The Cavaliers jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.
Callaway scored first when Cortez Leonard caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Tez Parks on a tipped ball.
Later in the quarter, Kel Kyles scored on an 8-yard run, and Chase Freeman’s second extra point made it a 14-0 game.
The Cavaliers extended the lead to 20-0 in the second quarter when Devon Rosser scored on a 1-yard touchdown run.
Jackson then began to get some momentum of its own when it scored on a touchdown run and converted a two-point conversion to make it 20-8 with 4:28 left in the half.
The Cavaliers had a chance to extend their lead, but they fumbled the ball in the end zone and Jackson recovered.
Callaway’s defense then came through with a big play.
Wilson Lindsey picked off a pass and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown, and Callaway went up 28-8 with the two-point conversion.
Jackson was driving late in the half when Lindsey came up with another interception, this one on his own 5-yard line, to end the threat.
In the third quarter, Jackson cut Callaway’s lead to 28-16 with a touchdown and a two-point conversion.
Callaway responded with a scoring drive of its own, with Rosser scoring on a 3-yard run to make it a 34-16 game, and that was the final score.
Callaway will host Chapel Hill on Thursday.
