It’s a one-game season for the Callaway Lady Cavaliers.

If they beat Haralson County today in the Region 4-AAA softball tournament, they will earn a spot in the state playoffs.

If the Lady Cavaliers lose today, their season is over.

It’s a simple-enough scenario, and head coach Nick Drescher didn’t try to sugarcoat it for his players.

Callaway and Haralson will meet at Central-Carroll High at 3 p.m.

“I told them. They know what the deal is,” Drescher said. “We have to put it all on the line.”

The Lady Cavaliers fell into the loser’s bracket of the tournament with an 8-1 loss to Central-Carroll on Tuesday.

The teams played twice in the regular season, and although Central-Carroll won both games, they were both competitive.

In Tuesday’s game, Central dominated from the start.

Callaway’s only run came when Molly Hubbard walked, and Jessica Siggers doubled to bring her in.

That run actually gave the Lady Cavaliers an early 1-0 lead, but Central quickly took control and didn’t look back.

If form holds today, Callaway will be celebrating a state-tournament berth.

Callaway and Heard County have played three times this season, and the Lady Cavaliers have won all three meetings.

Callaway won the first meeting 3-1 in an early-season tournament.

In region play, Callaway beat Haralson County 5-2 and 9-1.

The winner of today’s game advances to the tournament semifinals.
