Callaway Foundation President and General Manager H. Speer Burdette Wednesday shared with members of the Rotary Club of LaGrange what the foundation is doing and what their vision is for the future of Troup County at its regular club meeting.

Burdette was invited to be this week’s speaker by Dr. Charles Henry, who introduced Burdette to the club members. Henry highlighted Burdette’s accomplishments and mentioned some of the major organizations that Burdette has been affiliated with.

“As everyone in this room is fully aware, Speer Burdette has had enormous influence on so much in LaGrange and Troup County with his service on the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority, the Troup County Recreation Commission, the Industrial Development Authority, LaGrange Personal Aid Association, the Medical Park Foundation, and the boards of Hutchinson Trayor Insurance Agency and Commercial Bank and Trust Company,” Henry said.

Burdette was warmly welcomed to the podium and started his remarks with a bit of trivia and then drew a correlation between Rotary and Callaway Foundation.

Burdette said, “What Rotary is about coincides largely with what the foundation is about, and that is, about the quality of life in Troup County.”

Burdette then explained how the vision of the foundation today is essentially the same as what Fuller E. Callaway had when he formed the first of the foundations in 1917. He went on to review the history of the formation of Callaway Foundation and gave examples of the many ways in which the foundation is involved in helping the people in LaGrange and Troup County.

Burdette’s overall message to the Rotarians was that based on history the vision of Callaway Foundation has not changed and will not change in the future. That is the vision of Callaway Foundation is to enhance the quality of life of the people in LaGrange and Troup County to make this a special place to live, work, learn, and play.
