Hogansville City Council will vote Nov. 5 to codify the duties of the mayor pro tem.
The mayor pro tem, Councilman Jack Leidner, has been busier than usual the last few weeks as Mayor Jimmy Jackson has been absent with health issues. However, the duties of the mayor pro tem aren’t spelled out in any of the city ordinances.
The mayor pro tem has all the powers and rights of the mayor when he or she is acting mayor. This is especially important as the city begins to apply for several grants – making it necessary to make sure the city has the duties spelled out.
Council had a first reading of the ordinance setting out the mayor pro tem duties on Monday night.
Council also decided Monday to have a work session at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 29 to discuss dilapidated housing.
