Police probe suspected arson

LaGrange police are calling a fire at a Park Avenue apartment arson after some items were set fire near the back door just before midnight Thursday.

The resident of the apartment said he was inside when he smelled smoke. He walked down to the kitchen and saw smoke coming through a pipe that led to a storage area. When he opened his back door, he saw flames, and wound up putting out the fire with a coffee pot full of water. He also put out a small fire inside the storage area before calling 911. Damage to his items was estimated at $100.

Suspected drugs recovered at jail

Troup County sheriff’s deputies said they recovered a pipe used to smoke marijuana and a small bottle with methamphetamine residue that were brought in by an inmate who transferred here from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. The items were placed into evidence and the bottle did test positive for meth.

Rape reported

A woman told LaGrange police she was raped in an undisclosed location in LaGrange. The incident is under investigation.

Student punches bus monitor

Troup County sheriff’s deputies said a student on a school bus in Hogansville punched a bus monitor in the face after she saw him with a “multi-tool” knife and attempted to take it from him. The multi-tool was found and turned over to the deputy. The student was turned over to school authorities.

Thefts

• The landlord of a house in the 100 block of Askew Park in Hogansville said a tenant moved out, taking a refrigerator and microwave worth a combined $1,300.

• A $100 hand truck with steel wheels was reported taken from the 3000 block of Robert Hayes Road.
