Burglaries, thefts

•Two women were arrested on misdemeanor shoplifting charges after allegedly stealing a combined $111.68 in items from Fred’s and Goody’s on Commerce Avenue.

•A burglar broke into a residence in the 100 block of Cross Creek Drive, damaging the front door, and taking a 54-inch Vizio flat screen TV valued at $1,400 and several designer purses valued at a total $900.

•A Smyrna man said someone took his $700 cell phone after he left it in a cab in LaGrange.

•A resident of the 300 block of Laurel Lane said that a man grabbed her Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate cell phone valued at $350 after a domestic argument, punched her in the stomach and fled.

•Burglars entered an apartment in the 100 block of Turner Street and stole a Sony laptop computer valued at $200 PlayStation video game systems valued at a total $600. Two TVs from the residence were discovered behind a nearby home and recovered.

•Burglars entered a home in the 1300 block of Forrest Avenue, the resident reported, and took a 32-inch LG flat-screen TV valued at $228, a hand-held video game system valued at $300, an Xbox 360 video game system valued at $400, a PlayStation video game system valued at $250 and a pair of black Jordan tennis shoes valued at $150.

•Someone apparently entered a building in the 1100 block of Cannonville Road rented out for parties and stole about $200 in alcohol and a cooler, the owner reported.

•A burglar entered a home in the 100 block of Mallory Drive and stole three flat-screen TVs valued at $556, the resident reported.

CHS student allegedly beaten on bus

Troup sheriff’s investigators were looking into a report Monday that a Callaway High School student was beaten on a school bus as part of an alleged gang initiation last week. A teacher said the student had bruises all over his body.
