State Rep. Randy Nix, R-LaGrange, easily won his state House seat when election results were announced Tuesday night.

He defeated Democratic challenger Herbert Giles 14,441 to 4,675, or 75.54 percent to 24.46 percent.

In Troup County results, he won 4,221 to 1,191.

“I’m pleased with the results,” Nix said. This is the fourth term to which he’s been elected.

Giles, of Carrollton, did not actively campaign, Nix said.

Nix said he was looking forward to getting back to work.

“Since the election is past us, we can get serious about what’s coming up for the session,” he said.

Nix will be attending a meeting of the Republican caucus this week to discuss state House leadership for 2013 and other issues.

He plans to continue to stay active on the education committee and says there are at least two bills coming up that would help remove paperwork for teachers and address discipline issues in schools.

“The feeling I got from so many teachers is they want to teach the kids,” he said. “They don’t want to be tied down filling out a form with a No. 2 pencil.”

Nix also was pleased to see Amendment One, addressing the regulation of charter schools, passed. He was a supporter and worked on it in the education committee.

Nix also said legislators would be watching closely the impact of the national election in Georgia and what new laws may be passed that affect individual states.
