Mr. George Lee Vessell, age 72, of LaGrange, died on November 3, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Vessell was born on August 31, 1940 in Troup County to the late Edward Lee and Ethel Wheeler Vessell. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy, participating in two tours in Vietnam. After his time in the military he worked for the Proctor & Gamble Company and retired after over thirty years. He began a second career as the friendly greeter at Wal-Mart, and enjoyed his time there until his second retirement. Mr. Vessell was a member of the Troup County Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years, and along with military honors, the fire department will conduct a portion of his funeral service. He was a member of the Teaver Road Baptist Church.

Flowers will be accepted or the family suggest that donations be made to the building fund of his church, Teaver Road Baptist, 215 Teaver Road, LaGrange, 30240.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, George Lee Vessell, Jr., and a sister Rebecca Vessell. George Lee Vessell is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Thompson Vessell of LaGrange; daughter, Kimberly Dianne Brauer and her husband Craig of Sicklerville, N.J.; sister, Sandra Jean Allen of LaGrange; grandsons, Zachary Thomas Brauer and Scott Joseph Brauer; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at 3:00 pm at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Aaron McCollough, Rev. Danny Jeter, and Rev. Tim Duffey officiating. Interment will follow at Shadowlawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
