Members of the Rising Grove Baptist Church Choir sing at Friday night’s tree lighting ceremony at Frank Cox/Union Street School Park. The ceremony was sponsored by the Dernell Renault Stenson Foundation. Stenson was a standout LaGrange High School baseball player who went on to play for the Cincinnati Reds. He was playing in the Arizona Fall League when he was murdered Nov. 5, 2003, at age 25. Family members formed the foundation in late 2011 with the intent of assisting youth in the area with scholarships and other programs.

The Revs. J.H. Adams (at podium) and Michael Stenson welcome guests to the tree lighting at Frank Cox/Union Street School Park on Friday night.
