Two armed men robbed Smile Mart at 426 S. Greenwood St. on Sunday evening.
According to LaGrange police reports, at 7:25 p.m on Sunday, officers responded to an area near Greenwood Street where witnesses saw suspects involved in the armed robbery flee.
After patrolling the area, officer Colleen Hewett recognized two men walking on South Alford Street. She got out of her vehicle to interview the men, but one, described as wearing jeans and a black shirt, ran behind a residence on South Alford Street.
Hewett interviewed the remaining suspect, identified as Christopher Patterson, 21, of LaGrange. Patterson said he did not know the male who fled. A nearby neighbor called to Hewett, saying that someone left a black shirt lying in his yard.
Witnesses identified Patterson as one of the suspects, and an assisting officer arrived to help search Patterson. Officers found a Samsung cell phone, crumpled $5 bills and other cash totaling $56 on Patterson. He was placed in a patrol car as officers searched his residence on South Alford Street.
In his home, officers found a Mossberg brand pump shotgun and an Atlanta Falcons cap, similar to what a surveillance camera showed one of the the suspects wearing in the robbery.
Patterson was taken to Troup County Jail and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Police still were seeking the second suspect.
