Cavaliers get another region win

The Callaway High boys’ basketball team ran its Region 4-AAA record to 2-0 with a convincing 55-46 victory over Chapel Hill Saturday night.

On Friday, Callaway got a last-second 3-pointer Nehemiah Jones to beat Rockmart 69-68.

The Cavaliers went 1-5 during the non-region portion of their schedule, but they’ve started their region schedule in style.

The Lady Cavaliers were also hoping to move to 2-0 in the region, but they lost to Chapel Hill 43-30.

Callaway was outscored 15-4 in the first quarter, but it cut that deficit to 23-16 at the half.

The Lady Cavaliers were within five at 31-26 through three periods, but Chapel Hill pulled away in the final quarter.

Tanesha Johnson led Callaway with 11 points, and Latasha Anderson scored six points.

Callaway’s teams will be on the road Tuesday against Douglass.

LAFAYETTE CHRISTIAN: The Lady Cougars returned from an extended break in style with a 51-20 victory over homestanding Solid Rock Academy Friday night.

Courtney Lowery had a big game for the Lady Cougars with 20 points, and Morgan Mitchell added 18 points.

The Lady Cougars evened their record at 4-4, and they’re 2-0 in GISA Region 4-A.

In the boys’ game, the Cougars (0-8, 0-2) fell short, despite a big effort from David Curry, who had a career-high 24 points to go along with 12 rebounds.

Lafayette Christian’s teams will be on the road against Oak Mountain on Tuesday.
