It may be five months away, but DASH (Dependable, Affordable, Sustainable Housing) for LaGrange Inc. already is looking for volunteers and homeowners for Paint the Town.

It will be the seventh year for the annual event that matches volunteer groups with residents around town who need their houses painted. The residents, screened by DASH, can either not afford or not physically do the work.

To qualify for painting, homes must be located within the city limit of LaGrange. Homeowners must occupy the property to be painted and meet certain income guidelines.

Volunteer teams are generally made up of eight to 12 members from local churches, businesses or other organizations. Monetary donations also are gratefully to support the effort.

Paint the Town was started after former LaGrange Councilman Frank Cox urged DASH to do something for homeowners in southeast LaGrange. DASH’s initial focus was revitalizing the Hillside neighborhood in southwest LaGrange. Through the process, DASH also realized there were many homeowners all around LaGrange who needed to repaint their houses or make repairs and were unable to do so.

Paint the Town now repaints houses all around LaGrange and DASH has begun other initiatives to help homeowners fix up their properties.

During the event, sponsors pay for paint, T-shirts and lunches for volunteer crews. Volunteers provide brushes and ladders.

DASH is in its 11th year in LaGrange.
