WOODBURY - Mayokun Oshinowo returned to the LaGrange Academy lineup in style.

After missing Saturday’s game while nursing a sore knee, Oshinowo was back in uniform on Tuesday, and he scored 21 points to lead the Warriors to a 57-37 victory over Flint River Academy.

“He got off to a slow start,” LaGrange Academy head coach Britt Gaylor said. “He was feeling out how his knee was going to be, and once the second half began, he got going.”

The entire team struggled to find its rhythm in the first half.

The Warriors were clinging to a 17-11 lead at the half, but they broke it open in the second half to even their GISA Region 4-AA record at 1-1.

“We played really well defensively, which won us the ballgame,” Gaylor said.

Daniel Wardlaw, who hit some key shots on Saturday to help LaGrange Academy beat Trinity Christian in Oshinowo’s absence, added 18 points on Tuesday.

“He’s had a little bit of an ankle problem. Nothing too serious. It’s just been nagging him,” Gaylor said. “He says it’s still bothering him a little bit, but I think he’s adjusted to that pain, and he’s playing better now.”

In Tuesday’s girls’ game, LaGrange Academy struggled in a 48-28 loss to fall to 1-1 in the region.

“Flint River did a really good job of attacking the rim, and they did a real good job defensively on us,” Gaylor said. “They kept us out of the paint.”

Gaylor said the Lady Warriors are most successful when they’re able to get to the basket, but they were unable to do that for much of Tuesday’s game.

“We’ve done a real good job the last few games of getting to the paint and getting easy baskets,” Gaylor said. “They did a good job of keeping us out and making us settle for jumpers.”

LaGrange Academy’s teams will host Piedmont Academy on Friday and Arlington Christian School on Saturday.
