Mr. George E. Golden, Jr., 87, of LaGrange, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the Columbus Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Golden was a native of Troup County and was born July 24, 1925, son of the late George E. Sr. and Eva Arrington Golden. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of WWII. Mr. Golden graduated from the University of Georgia after the war and was co-owner of Finney Insurance Agency of LaGrange for over 40 years. He was a life-long member of The United Congregational Christian Church on Juniper Street now known as Cedarcrest Community Church. Mr. Golden lived a life of devotion to church, family, and friends. “Papa” was especially proud of his five grandchildren and passed on to them a lasting legacy of faith, love and service.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ellen Wilson Golden of LaGrange; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert and Debbie Golden of Conyers; daughter and son-in-law, Jean and David King of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Captain Daniel Golden, USMC, and fiancée Lindsay DeKlotz; Lt. JG James Golden, USN, and fiancée Emma Harwood; Matthew Golden and fiancée Laura Mincey; Olivia King and Benjamin King; sister, Merle Swanson Bates of Douglas; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Riley L. Golden of Tallahassee, FL and Dr. Richard Golden, Sr. of Winder.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 Saturday at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel with Rev. Paul Botica and Rev. Max McCord officiating. Interment will be at Shadowlawn Cemetery. The family will be at his home and will receive friends at the funeral home an hour before the service Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00.
