Demoton Boyd, Chris Manning and Qua Baldwin will each be a part of the first ever West Georgia Tech football team.
The Knights won’t play their first game until 2014, but the team will take shape this fall when the first freshman class reports.
West Georgia Tech will be a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Manning, a defensive lineman, said the three Grangers are looking forward to staying together for awhile longer.
“It’s what we really wanted to do was stay together, and see how far we can take it together,” Manning said. “I think it’ll be good for all three of us.”
Baldwin said “it’ll be good to start the program. It’s something I’ll always remember.”
Boyd said he’s looking forward to getting a chance to make an impact beyond the high-school level.
“I’m very excited,” he said. “One of the reasons I chose the school was I just just wanted to start there with a fresh start, a new team, new coaches and just make my mark. I’m glad I chose where I chose.”
All three players made their mark at LaGrange.
Boyd, one of the state’s top sprinters, was a dynamic player who had numerous touchdowns in the return game and was a big-play threat in the running game as well.
Baldwin was a lock-down corner, and Manning was a force on the defensive line.
West Georgia Tech will play its home games at Heard County’s stadium in Franklin.
