An intended drug check on one person led to the arrest of another.

According to a sheriff’s report, on Tuesday at 2:40 p.m., drug agents with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office and LaGrange Police Department went to a residence in the 900 block Hines Road in reference to a drug check on a female resident.

Upon arriving at the residence, Dave Woodruff, 45, of LaGrange, who lives at and owns the residence, allegedly ran into an open shed upon seeing the agents’ vehicles approaching.Woodruff exited the back of the shed and ran through an open pasture to the back of the property, and refused verbal commands from agents to stop. After a brief foot chase, agents caught up to Woodruff at the back of the pasture where the fence separated it from the woods, the report said.

Seconds before Woodruff was taken into custody, he was seen throwing an unknown object over the fence.

During a search of the area where the object was thrown, a glass pipe that appeared to have been used to smoke suspected methamphetamine was found.

Woodruff was walked back to the residence where he agreed to a search of his property. He told agents the location of two partially smoked marijuana cigarettes, one in the shed he had fled from and the other in a rear shed.

Agents made contact with the female occupant, but no drugs or contraband were found.

Woodruff, who is the brother of Sheriff James Woodruff, was arrested and taken to the Harris County Jail, where he was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and obstruction.
