Mrs. Kay L. Doerr, 75, of LaGrange passed away Monday, February 25, 2013, at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Doerr was born December 20, 1937, in Baltimore, MD, daughter of the late Fredrick J. Lockwood and Arlene Coughtry Lockwood. She spent her childhood and youth in Kansas City, Mo., then moved on to attend Oklahoma University pursuing a degree in Fashion Arts. She served her fashion internship with Neiman Marcus in Dallas, TX. It was in Dallas she met her husband, Jim, of 51 years. Mrs. Doerr was a member of First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange. She was an active volunteer with many organizations, including Twin Cedars and the Department of Family and Children Services. She was a sustaining member of Junior Service League of LaGrange. Mrs. Doerr was a member of the D.A.R (Daughter’s of the American Revolution) and active member of the Talisman Garden Club as well as two area Book Clubs. She was instrumental in establishing the gift shop at West Georgia Medical Center and was the owner of Added Touch for several years. But her happiest times were being “Grandmommy” to her seven grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. James Doerr; three children, James Lockwood Doerr and his wife Beth, Jeffrey Scott Doerr, and Robert William Doerr and his wife Natalie, all of LaGrange; brother, Fred Lockwood and his wife Maren of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren, Abigail Elizabeth Doerr, Sara Katherine Doerr, Ellen Natalie Doerr, Anna Kay Doerr, Lizbeth Anne Doerr, James Reid Doerr, and John Robert Doerr; sister-in-law, Kay Bennett and her husband Gary of Birmingham, AL; and one niece and one nephew.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 28, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange with Dr. Douglas DeCelle and Dr. Bill Conine officiating. The gathering of family and friends will be on Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
