It was a complete effort by the Callaway Cavaliers.

Taking on Rockmart in a Region 4-AAA soccer match on Thursday, the Cavaliers dominated the action from the opening whistle to the final horn en route to a 4-0 victory.

The Cavaliers ran their overall record to 6-1, and they’re 3-0 in region play.

It was also a big day for the Callaway girls’ team, which handled Rockmart 3-1 to also move to 3-0 in the region.

In the boys’ game, Callaway head coach Jake Hembree was thrilled with his team’s effort.

“We probably possessed the ball 90 percent of the game,” Hembree said. “And that’s a step up from Tuesday night (against Jackson). We just finally played our full game.”

With the Cavaliers up by a comfortable margin at the half, Hembree substituted freely in the second half.

“We were able to get all of our other guys in after halftime,” Hembree said. “It was a fun win tonight. The team was excited about it, and we never let up.”

Cody Tucker led the Cavaliers with two goals, and Kevin Craig and Kyle Jenkins added one goal apiece.

In the girls’ game, Emily Shea continued her scoring barrage this season with a pair of goals.

Callaway’s other goal came when a Rockmart player inadvertently kicked the ball into her own net.

The Lady Cavaliers were up 1-0 at the half thanks to a Shea goal.

The own goal made it 2-0 in the second half, and Shea capped the scoring with her second goal.

“It was a great region win,” Callaway coach Kori Skinner said. “We came out ready to go. They were fired up. It was an overall great night.”
