Area residents who suffered through power outages in Monday night’s storm still didn’t have it as bad as a chihuahua.

The male dog was found without its owner in the midst of the storm that rolled through northern Troup County and Hogansville around 6 p.m, bringing golf ball-sized hail. The dog wasn’t wearing a tag and doesn’t have a microchip, but was wearing a blue and yellow shirt that says “I surf small waves.” He was found on Miller Road, northwest of Hogansville.

If you’re going to get lost, however, there’s perhaps no better place to be found wandering than on the same street as a woman who runs a dog rescue.

A neighbor brought the dog to Sandy Lumm, who owns Skye’s Rescue in Hogansville. After keeping the dog at her house overnight, Lumm took him to the rescue at 1734 E. Main St. The neighbor checked with other houses on the road after the storm passed, but no one claimed the dog.

“We would love to find his owner,” he said. “If we can’t find his owner, we will find him another wonderful home.”

Lumm estimates the dog weighs about 5 pounds and is 5 years old.
