Gavin Crawford, owner and operator of GrassRoots, a turf treatment company, became the newest member of the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce on Monday.

The ribbon cutting ceremony took place at Boyd Park and was attended by family, friends and members of the chamber and LaGrange City and Troup County officials.

Crawford has owned and operated GrassRoots, a successful green industry, for the past 10 years. GrassRoots is an independent company, a factor that Crawford said makes a difference between himself and his competition.

“Most of my competition are franchises, that is how we set ourselves apart, we are local. Being local allows us to have a personal relationship with every customer,” Crawford said. “Our goal is to offer a quality product at a fair price. We have built a good reputation through the quality services we offer all of our customers. We are blessed to have such loyal customers. Most of my customers have been with me since I started.”

After 10 years, Crawford decided that he wanted to join the the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce.

“I realized that the chamber is beneficial to our company and that I now want to also give back to the community, just like they have helped me for all of these years,” Crawford said.

To Help him meet his customers’ needs, Crawford employs one full-time employee, spray technician Wesley Powell, and one part-time employee, Gresham Lynn. Powell drove one of the company’s trucks to the celebration while Lynn, unfortunately, wasn’t able to take part in the day’s event.

When everyone was gathered, LaGrange City Councilman Bobby Traylor and chamber diplomat Otto Korth stretched the traditional green and gold ribbon in front of the crowd. Crawford was handed the chamber’s large wooden scissors and Chamber President Page Estes then asked a few of the guests to welcome Crawford as the newest chamber member.

Before the ribbon could be cut, Estes explained the significance of the colors for the ribbons.

“The green is not for your green grass, green is for the money that we hope will be coming into your business. Gold is for the golden networking relationships, that we hope you will find through your chamber membership,” Estes said. “In turn, we hope that you refer other folks as chamber members, so we can keep this network of almost 900 businesses thriving in Troup County.”

With that, Estes started to count and on three, everyone said, “GrassRoots,” and Crawford cut the ribbon.
