A woman who was trapped in her vehicle after a wreck Wednesday was treated at the hospital and re-leased, along with the other driver and her son.

Kay Elam’s head was bleeding, but she was able to stand, police said.

Elam, 59, of Cherokee Road was injured in a two-vehicle accident when she crossed Country Club Road from Broad Street onto Waverly Way about 7:45 a.m. An Isuzu Rodeo northbound on Country Club Road struck the right side of Elam’s Jeep Wrangler, which flipped onto its side.

Daniel Guy, a doctor with the Southern Center For Orthopedics, was on the scene and advised rescue workers that Elam’s seat belt should be cut so she could receive immediate medical treatment. A resident used a pocket knife provided by police to cut the seat belt after the roof of the Jeep was cut away, police said.

Elam was treated at West Georgia Medical Center.

The driver of the Rodeo, Samanths Horton, 25, of Park Place had her two sons in the vehicle with her. Horton suffered a cut on her forehead while 7-year-old Shawn Bolan suffered a small bump on his forehead, police said. They were treated at the hospital and re-leased. Horton’s other son, a 6-year-old, wasn’t injured.

Elam was cited for failure to yield.
