Ellis Benford Massey, 83, of LaGrange, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at his home.

Mr. Massey was born June 2, 1926 in Harris County, GA, son of the late Clay and Jewel Watson Massey. He was a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Massey worked for many years in maintenance with the LaGrange Housing Authority. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mazeal Gamble Tollerson; three step-sons, Robert Tollerson, Charles Tollerson, and David ‘Slim’ Tollerson; three brothers, Robert Massey, Charles Massey, and Lewis Massey; and a sister, Sarah Oliver.

Survivors include his daughter, Dallas Purgason; two step-daughters, Leavera Clay and Charlotte Trudeau; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Beech Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Howard Longshore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will be at 1328 Hogansville Rd., and will receive friends at the church from 2 p.m. until the funeral hour.
