He was a native of Chambers County, Alabama, and the son of the late James and Beatrice Potts Dennis. He was married to the late Geneva Linson. He attended the West Point City Schools and was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Lanett, Alabama. He held employment at a local saw mill.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Marilyn (Jessie) Heard of LaGrange; five sons, Homer Dennis, Jr., Willie R. Dennis and Gary (Tekey) Dennis all of LaGrange, Robert Dennis of Las Vegas, Nevada and Frank Dennis of Atlanta; 13 grandchildren, Latoya (John) Chelcy, Donald Dennis, Timothy Dennis, Jessica Heard, Bernard Heard, Erin Shepherd, Rainey Shepherd, Brandon Shepherd, Tiffany Jones, Emma Jones, Snatez Smith, Tress Dennis and Gary Dennis, Jr.; seven great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Johnnie Linson.
Funeral services for Homer Dennis, Sr. will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009, at 3:00 P.M. at Arbor Grove Baptist Church. Dr. Rev. Hamp Long will officiate with burial at Eastview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter at 903 Motley Street.
