Police: Man holds woman against will, beats her

A man was accused of holding a woman inside his residence against her will in the 1000 block of Simmons Street while beating her.

Martin, 25, was charged with kidnapping, battery and interference with an emergency call.

Police gave this account:

The incident began Saturday night after an argument about where the victim had been the night before. The suspect then began striking the victim’s face with closed fists and kicking her after she tried to call 911. He then ripped the phone cord out of his living room wall, dragging her to his bedroom by her feet. The suspect later fled in his truck.

A girl witnessed her father beat a woman outside her Benjamin Harvey Hills Homes residence at 1006 Whitesville Road on Saturday night.

The altercation began in the victim’s bedroom before she ran outside, attempting to escape her intoxicated husband. The suspect then followed her, pulling her down to the ground by her hair, kicking her causing her to cry. A neighbor heard her crying and called 911. The victim’s daughter had watched the incident from the entrance of her front door.

The suspect, Lonnie Johnson, 34, of Cross Creek Court, was charged with a second offense of battery under the Family Violence Act, third-degree cruelty to a child and criminal trespass. His first battery offense occurred in 2005 for also beating his wife, police said.

Thefts

• Three pressure washers with a combined value of more than $1,000 were stolen from Tractor Supply at 100 Plantation Way on Sunday morning.

• A 27-inch flat screen TV valued at valued at $400 was stolen from a residence in the 600 block of Elm Street. The owner’s clothing was scattered on the residence’s floors and drawers were pulled out. No signs of entry were found, police said.

Vandalism

Another mailbox was knocked to the ground on East Mount Zion Church Road on Saturday night. Six were knocked down last week on the same road.
